Flourishing Amid the Ruins… Homs Rediscovers Life After Years of Hardship
Despite the widespread destruction that still hangs over
many of its neighborhoods, Um Saeed believes that Homs is entering a new phase of revival,
and that its people will rebuild it no matter how much rubble remains.
She says: “Today, Homs is experiencing a period of revival despite the
devastation surrounding it. Amid these ruins, its people will rebuild it into
something even more beautiful — worthy of its place as the capital of the
Syrian revolution and of the sacrifices made by its sons and daughters.”
She adds that although residents are struggling to secure
their daily needs and living conditions have fallen to extreme levels of
poverty, they still have strong hope in the new Syrian government to
improve services and living standards in the coming period.
Um Saeed stresses the need for urgent plans
to restore the properties of displaced families and compensate
those whose homes were destroyed during the war. She also highlights the
importance of improving the economic situation, reducing the prices of
essential goods, and easing the burden on citizens after 14 years of
deprivation.
She further calls for regulating rental prices, while praising the
improved security situation in Homs following the deployment of Public Security
Forces and the noticeable return of life and movement in the city’s streets and
neighborhoods.
